Choose your term, see exactly what your first invoice will be, and start your switch.
You have ten working days from joining to change your mind and get the membership fee back in full.
Not ready to commit? Start with a bill analysis
Most people start here rather than on this page. Send us a recent power bill and we will show you what that same usage would have cost on PowerHub, half-hour by half-hour against the actual market price. It is free, it takes a couple of days, and it commits you to nothing.
When the numbers stack up, you come back to this page, choose your term and we invoice you. If they do not, we will tell you that too, and you will have lost nothing but a few days.
Apply Now, on the menu above, is where the bill analysis starts.
What you are agreeing to
Joining PowerHub is two commitments, and they are separate.
The membership fee is a one-off charge for the term you choose. You have ten working days from paying it to change your mind and get it back in full. After that the fee is not refundable. There is no break cost: if you leave before the term ends, you simply stop being a member.
The electricity supply agreement is open-ended. You can end it at any time on 30 days' notice, with no exit penalty.
Before your switch we run a credit check, $6 for a residential connection or $30.50 for a commercial one, and there is a $5 plus GST switch-in charge. The wholesale market also requires a clearing prudential, which works out at roughly 5 cents per kWh of your expected annual use. The prudential is not a fee. It is your money, held as security, and it is returned to you when you leave.
Each month you pay the wholesale spot price for the electricity you used, a PowerHub service fee of $0.02 per kWh, network, metering and Electricity Authority levy charges passed through at cost, and $5 for billing. Spot prices move, so your bill will move, and in a given month you could pay more than a fixed retail plan would have charged. All prices exclude GST.
Nothing is charged and no credit check is run until you have seen your invoice.
What happens next
1. We email you a summary of exactly what you chose, so you can check it before anything is charged.
2. We send a Xero invoice for the one-off amount: your membership fee, the credit check, the $5 plus GST switch-in, the refundable prudential, and solar if you asked for it.
3. Once that invoice is paid, we ask you for your date of birth and photo identification. We only collect those after payment, because that is the point at which we need them to run the credit check. Your ten working days to change your mind start from the day you pay.
4. We run the credit check and lodge your switch. The transfer runs on the standard industry timetable. You do not need to contact your current retailer, and nothing at your property changes: no one visits, and your power does not go off.
5. Your old retailer sends a final bill. Your first PowerHub invoice covers the wholesale cost of what you used, the $0.02 per kWh service fee, network and metering charges at cost, and $5 for billing.
If anything about your connection means we cannot supply you, we will tell you before we invoice you, not after.
