The PowerHub Team
Sophia Bristow
Founder
While PowerHub is a startup company, the Founder has had considerable experience in banking, funds management and most recently global importing and wholesale distributions for whiteware appliances.
The Founder also holds key relationships in New Zealand and Australia to implement the strategy and growth objectives. Leaning into policy supports and government subsidies, working with partners across the value chain is our key strength. While owning and operating a whiteware importing and distributions business in NZ and AU, the power supply causing PCB board failures and the increase in warranty costs for the business, had led to a global search for a suitable solution. PowerHub, through its own market research, designs and specifications, supply chain review and contract custom manufacturing, has delivered to the New Zealand market a battery solution that is tailored for its end users in residential, Commercial & Industrial, network companies, grid-scale and generators, and is suitable for its climate.

Gerard Field
DIRECTOR
Gerard Field is a Director of PowerHub Group, leading the company’s mission to provide greater energy stability and security for kiwi households through a flexible, service-led model. A chartered accountant and INFINZ member, Gerard brings deep experience across leadership, finance and capital markets.
He began his career with the Audit Office in New Zealand, followed by accounting roles in London, before returning home and starting his banking career with the Bank of New Zealand. He then moved into investment banking and went on to spend more than two decades with HSBC NZ. Here he established its local investment banking and debt capital markets capability and later served in senior leadership roles across treasury and global markets, overseeing balance-sheet funding, liquidity, custody and treasury sales. He then spent three years leading a private bank in the Cook Islands back to sustainable profitability, following which he returned to New Zealand and was appointed CEO of a finance company and established its Wholesale PIE Fund.
At PowerHub Group, he is focused on scaling customer-first energy solutions that help households reduce power costs, stay powered through outages, protect appliances and reduce reliance on the grid—supporting a more resilient and sustainable energy future for New Zealand.

Mal Corboy
DESIGNS AND SUSTAINABILITY
Designing a sustainable home today is no longer just about using eco-friendly materials and energy-efficient appliances. The true frontier of home sustainability lies in embedding resilience into the system; and recognising that sustainability is a collective endeavour. In the words of award-winning designer Mal Corboy, “Design is personal…you are remodelling someone’s most intimate space.” But to serve both people and planet, our ambitions must extend beyond aesthetics to infrastructure, community, and power.
At its heart, sustainability isn’t a solo mission, it’s inherently communal. The more homes, neighbourhoods, and towns commit to low-impact choices, the greater the gravitational pull for manufacturers, utilities, and policymakers to lean greener. When a cluster of households adopts renewable energy, battery storage, smart controls, and demand flexibility, the network strain decreases, economies of scale kick in, and local grids become more robust.
Mal Corboy’s approach to sustainable design emphasises stewardship, not just of materials or carbon, but of ecosystems and social responsibility.
